FALL LEAF REMOVAL – The color of fall leaves can be quite beautiful – until they come off the trees and clutter your planting beds and lawn. We can give you an estimate on one-time removal for small sites or regular clean-up if you have a heavily wooded site.

WHY DO I NEED TO RAKE UP FALL LEAVES ANYWAY?

Even if you don’t mind the look of fall leaves in your yard, there are several good reasons for cleaning them up sooner rather than later.

  • Leaves left to accumulate can shade turf and other ground covers or low perennials and can starve these plants of sunlight.
  • Leaves can trap moisture increasing the chance for snow mold in your turf.
  • Not only are they unsightly, fall leaves can accumulate and clog storm sewers which can cause run-off and erosion in other areas.
  • Leaves left on your turf in fall can interfere with proper application of lawn fertilizer and herbicide.
  • Wet leaves can be a hazard causing people to slip and fall.

Landscape Clean-Up

SEASONAL CLEAN-UP – Each season brings its own challenges to the residential or commercial landscape. In spring, new foliage is emerging on trees and shrubs, flowering plants are blooming, and weeds are popping up. Summer storms can cause damage to trees and shrubs. Fall leaves can pile up quickly and beds need to be readied for winter. Snow, ice, and drying winter winds can damage evergreens. Below is a brief outline of some of the unexpected and the routine seasonal chores we can do for you.

SPRING: We can spruce up your garden before blooms and new foliage show up in spring by cutting back perennials and ornamental grasses, mulching, weeding, and re-edging beds. After danger of frost, we can remove fall annuals and add spring/summer annuals that will continue to bloom and add color for most of the growing season.

SUMMER: We can help with clean-up and removal of weak or dead limbs brought down by summer storms. Early summer’s also the best time to prune many spring-flowering shrubs (i.e., Azalea, Forsythia, Hydrangea, Lilac, Viburnum, etc.) and it’s a good time to prune some evergreens (i.e., Barberry, Boxwood, Cherrylaurel, Pieris, etc.).

FALL: We can replace tired spring/summer annuals with fall annuals (i.e., Mums, Pansies, Ornamental Kale/Cabbage, etc.) for added seasonal color. Many perennials and ornamental grasses can look ragged and unsightly during winter and into spring if they aren't cut back or deadheaded in fall. In spring, these plants not only look unattractive with dead leaves masking the new growth but make clean-up much more difficult. We can help you get a jump on next spring by cleaning up in fall.

WINTER: Many shrubs are best pruned in winter (i.e., Abelia, Beautyberry, Butterfly Bush, Cherrylaurel, Juniper, Photinia, Privet, Smoketree, Yew, etc.). Winter is also the best time to prune many evergreens (i.e., Arborvitae, Atlas Cedar, Deodar Cedar, Holly, Leyland Cypress, Southern Magnolia, etc.), and it’s also a good time to prune some deciduous trees (i.e., Crape Myrtle, Japanese Maple, and fruit trees).

Additionally, in winter when there usually isn’t much color or activity in the landscape, some homeowners prefer to leave seedheads and foliage as food and habitat for birds or other small animals OR for seasonal interest – providing some structure, color or texture to look at through the dreary months. In this case, it’s best to wait until late winter/early spring to cut back or deadhead perennials, grasses or groundcovers.
