Elements of stone or wood can add structure, function and beauty to any landscape or garden and include walkways, stone walls, patios, decks and more.

WHAT WE CAN DO FOR YOU

HOMEOWNERS – Adding a trellis can make the entrance of a garden more inviting while giving support to a climbing rose or a flowering vine. Low retaining walls can help prevent erosion on a sloped area but can also function as seating in an area where you or your guests might like to sit to enjoy the beauty in your yard.

BUSINESSES – An attractive paver or flagstone walkway can help direct customers to the entrance of your business. Curbing or stone edging added to a raised bed can enhance the area around a sign or entranceway.

HARDSCAPE:

Hardscaping comes in many forms, serves many functions and can provide many benefits in the landscape.

Forms: Merriam-Webster.com defines hardscape as “structures (as fountains, benches, or gazebos) that are incorporated into a landscape.” Citation: “Hardscape.” Merriam-Webster.com. Merriam-Webster, n.d. Web. 28 Feb.2014. < http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/hardscape>. In addition, hardscaping in the landscape can include any masonry or wood structure, such as retaining walls, steps or terraces, dry stacked stone, paver or flagstone walkways, patios, decks, arbors, pergolas, fencing and even statuary.

Problem:
Cracked, Broken, Unlevel Walkway

Solution:

Walkways can prove unsafe to you, your family and visitors if there are holes, cracks or sections that are raised or sunken. Consider replacing your existing walk with attractive flagstone or—for a more formal design—interlocking pavers. We can help you select stone or pavers with the style, size, and color that best coordinates with your house and your style.

Functions: In addition to its many possible forms, hardscaping can also serve many functions in the landscape. For example, adding a paver patio creates a usable outdoor living space for outdoor furniture, grill or firepit for dining and relaxing. If a similar type of stone is also used to construct other hardscape elements in the landscape, such as steps, walkways or retaining walls, then the hardscaping provides a unifying element to all the areas of the landscape where it is used. A flagstone walkway leading from the back door of the house to a storage shed, garden area or dog run protects turf from being trod on so frequently that it cannot grow and the path becomes a muddy rut during wet weather.

Beauty: Hardscape can also add beauty to your garden, such as a decorative arbor or water feature located near a comfortable bench in a cool shaded area. It can also help to emphasize especially interesting or prized plants - a trellis for a lovely climbing vine or a section of privacy fencing as a backdrop and support for a favorite rose bush.

Durability: Hardscaping elements made of masonry or stone are durable and long-lasting. Elements of wood may not last as long as stone but are very attractive, easy to install, cost effective and, if maintained properly, can provide many years of service.

More Outdoor Living Space: Ultimately, hardscaping elements – whether masonry or wood – can beautifully augment your landscape and create more usable outdoor living space for you to enjoy year round.
